The veteran cornerback moves from the practice squad to the 53-man roster after impressing in Week 3.

After spending a week on the Steelers’ practice squad, cornerback James Pierre is back on the active/inactive roster with Pittsburgh signing him on Monday, per a report from NFL insider Aaron Wilson and Pierre’s agent Toney Scott.

Here’s what we wrote about Pierre when he signed to the Pittsburgh practice squad on Sept. 17.

Pierre signed with the Steelers in 2020 as an undrafted free agent out of Florida Atlantic. From 2020-23, Pierre appeared in 66 games for the black and gold, logging six starts. Over his career, he has amassed 94 total tackles, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, and eight passes defensed.

The 6’2, 185-pound defender became a core special teamer for Pittsburgh, playing as one of the team’s two starting gunners. He ran a 4.59-second 40-yard dash coming out of college.

Pierre signed with the Washington Commanders as a free agent in March, but he was released during cutdowns in August. Now, he finds himself back where his NFL career began.

Pierre was elevated to the Steelers’ active roster in the team’s Week 3 game versus the Los Angeles Chargers. He immediately made an impact in punt coverage, and now finds himself as an official member of the 53-man roster.

After signing offensive tackle Calvin Anderson earlier in the day, Pittsburgh now has 54 players on their roster. The team will have to make a corresponding release when they announce the additions.
