You can learn a lot about the 2024 Steelers from the team’s snap counts.

Welcome back to Steelers snap counts. Moving forward, this will be a shorter article, but you can still view all the snap counts, as well as some takeaways, below!

Making the most of it award

This week, the award goes to running back Jaylen Warren. Despite playing just 21 offensive snaps, he once again shone as a pass blocker and somehow recovered a badly-thrown backwards pass to save the Steelers from turning the ball over in the red zone.

Takeaways

  • DeShon Elliott finally makes the 100% snap club — the Steelers clearly value what he brings to the team.
  • Another riser is safety Terrell Edmunds, at 25% of defensive snaps, who is slowly becoming a bigger and bigger part of the team once again.
  • Jeremiah Moon, Ade Ogundeji, and Eku Leota combined for 70 defensive snaps on Sunday — a hard to believe number given the Steelers’ outside linebacker room to open the season.
  • George Pickens played just 65% of offensive snaps on Sunday, but it was still an increase over last week. He was also the team’s top receiver snap-wise. (Tight ends Pat Freiermuth and Darnell Washington were the top skill position players). It’s still not a great look for Pickens, and an even worse look for how the team trusts its wide receiver room.
  • Jaylen Warren played just 34% of offensive snaps. You have to think that number goes up once he’s completely healthy.
  • Calvin Anderson and Rodney Williams snuck onto the field for some offensive snaps on Sunday.
  • Rookie wide receiver Roman Wilson played just five offensive snaps. More interesting, although not surprising, are his zero special teams snaps. He won’t be able to earn a role on the team by impressing Danny Smith — Wilson has to produce on offense eventually.
  • The Steelers’ offense is back to out-snapping the defense (62:60 this week).
