The Steelers fill their remaining practice squad spot.
The Steelers filled their remaining open practice squad spot on Wednesday morning. Per a team announcement, Pittsburgh has signed tight end Matt Sokol to the practice squad.
Sokol might be a familiar name to some Steelers fans. He spent some of the summer with Pittsburgh as well as one month of the 2024 season on the practice squad. Now, he returns for another stint.
Sokol went undrafted in 2019 out of Michigan State. He recorded eight catches for 100 yards and a touchdown his final season as a Spartan, also contributing as a blocker and on special teams.
The 6’5, 249-pound tight end has spent time with the Los Angeles Chargers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Detroit Lions, and New England Patriots before coming to Pittsburgh. He’s appeared in eight career NFL regular season games although he’s yet to record a catch.
Also in the Steelers’ Wednesday roster news is wide receiver Ben Skowronek, who returned to practice after being placed on injured reserve earlier this season. His 21-day window is now open to return to the Steelers’ roster. Skowronek hasn’t been a big part of Pittsburgh’s offense, but he was a contributor on special teams.
