The newest Steeler is happy to be back in a familiar scheme
The Pittsburgh Steelers made two trades ahead of the deadline on Tuesday. One of which wasn’t the least bit surprising, acquiring wide receiver Mike Williams from the New York Jets. One that was unexpected, though, was the acquisition of linebacker Preston Smith from the Green Bay Packers. In his first press conference since being traded, Smith revealed that he requested a trade from Green Bay a few weeks ago due to scheme fit.
“Just getting out here again, back in a system I’m comfortable being in, playing at a high level man, I’m loving it right now… it’s just what I’ve been playing in the last nine years of my career until this past season.”

Smith is coming off three consecutive seasons of at least eight sacks with the Packers. He has just 2.5 this year, which can be attributed to the change from a 3-4 to a 4-3 after the Packers changed defensive coordinators.
