Pittsburgh opens a spot on the 53-man roster.
The Pittsburgh Steelers made a roster move on Thursday, releasing wide receiver Scotty Miller per a team announcement.
This season, Miller has recorded five catches for 69 yards on nine targets. With George Pickens, Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin III, Ben Skowronek, and Mike Williams all healthy for the Steelers, Miller was an inactive in Week 18 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
The expectation is that the Steelers released Miller to make room on the 53-man roster for offensive tackle Calvin Anderson. Anderson, currently on injured reserve but designated to return, returned to practice on Tuesday. With offensive guard Mason McCormick questionable for Saturday’s game, Pittsburgh could need some extra depth on the O-line.
Anderson was a full participant in Thursday’s practice, but is still listed as questionable for the Wild Card round with a groin injury. For now, the Steelers have an open spot on the 53-man roster.
This might not be the last we see of Miller as a Steeler. The receiver played under Arthur Smith in Atlanta and has largely performed well in his limited opportunities this season, including a clutch fourth-quarter play as the Steelers’ emergency holder against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1.
Although the group is healthy, Pittsburgh enters the playoffs with just five wide receivers on the roster.
