How will the Big Game shake out?
Happy Super Bowl LIX to those who celebrate! The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will kick off the final game of the 2024-25 NFL season in their quest for the Lombardi Trophy at 6:30 p.m. ET, airing on Fox.
The Chiefs, of course, are looking to become the first team in NFL history to achieve three consecutive Super Bowl wins and cement their standing alongside the greatest NFL dynasties in the modern era, including, of course, the 70’s Pittsburgh Steelers and 00’s New England Patriots.
Here’s a look at the Super Bowl predictions from the staff of Behind The Steel Curtain.
This is the ultimate don’t overthink it Super Bowl matchup. The Chiefs kicked off their quest for a 3-peat by beating the Eagles two years ago. Though the rosters have changed the crux of the matchup remains the same as it was then and against the Niners last year: is it better to have one of the best and deepest rosters in the league or the league’s best QB with one of the best HC’s and DC’s of all time? Until I see Goliath felled by David, I’m not betting against the Chiefs.
KC wins 31-25. — Ryan Parish
The Eagles have the best roster in the NFL and are more than capable of winning a Super Bowl. Counterpoint: Patrick Mahomes. Andy Reid. Steve Spagnuolo. The Chiefs’ magic is just too strong, and they’ve proven time and time again this season that it’s foolish to pick against them. On the biggest stage where they tend to play their best, there’s no way I’m not choosing Kansas City to win this one. Thankfully, the Chiefs’ winning style hasn’t been as dominant as their record this season, so I think we’ll be in for an entertaining game.
Kansas City wins 27-24. — Ryland Bickley
The Eagles have all the weapons to win this game, if they don’t turn the ball over. Barkley may not have received the votes to be league MVP, but he will be the Big Game’s most valuable player.
Eagles 31, Chiefs 24 — Kyle Chrise
The Chiefs have played with fire seemingly every week this season. They hold the NFL record having won 17 straight games by one possession. Another escape against the Bills in the AFC championship has folks wondering if they are finally due to lose a close game.
News flash: they aren’t. Eventually, it sinks in that they aren’t lucky or being helped by referees (c’mon) – they’re just that damn good. You make your own luck. They deserve credit for continuously finding ways to win. Much of that is due to the play of their quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who will once again find a way to make big plays down the stretch. I think the Chiefs defense will corral Saquon Barkley, and force Jalen Hurts to beat them. Although he’s capable, I trust Chiefs DC Steve Spagnoulo more than I do Hurts.
Chiefs 27 Eagles 24. It’s just what these Chiefs do. — Mike Nicastro
Apparently, I’m one of the few contrarians here with BTSC, backing the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX despite facing those Kansas City Chiefs. Despite the fact that the Chiefs have the edge when it comes to their head coach, as Andy Reid is truly a legend among legends, I do think the Eagles have the edge in terms of overall roster construction with a better run game, a balanced passing attack and a defense with great balance between their front seven and secondary. I think it will be a close game that comes down to the wire, but one that ultimately leans in favor of the Eagles despite the best quarterback of this generation on the other sideline.
Eagles 31, Chiefs 24. — Kate Magdziuk
It’s the Chiefs. I’m not betting on Nick Siriani and Jalen Hurts to defeat Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes. Vic Fangio has also never defeated Andy Reid. KC wins and cements themselves as the best dynasty of all time.
Chiefs 27, Eagles 17 — Jarrett Bailey
The Eagles are more than capable of winning this game. Their run game is elite, defense has proven to be strong, and they are well coached. However, they are facing off against the best team of the 2020’s. Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid are proven winners and until proven wrong it is hard to pick against them.
Chiefs 28, Eagles 20. — Alex Hanczar
