The Steelers seemingly change secondary coaches.
The Steelers made their hire of Gerald Alexander official on Tuesday. Alexander, who was the Las Vegas’ Raiders safeties coach last season, has been named the defensive backs coach for the Steelers.

Alexander’s hiring was reported last week. The coach spent the 2022-23 seasons with the Steelers as the assistant defensive backs coach. He returns to his old team with a promotion.
The Alexander hire, now confirmed, raised questions about what the Steelers were planning with current secondary coach Grady Brown. Brown received a defensive coordinator interview with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason, leading to speculation that he was a rising candidate and could receive a promotion from the Steelers.
However, Steelers beat writers are reporting that Brown’s contract with the Steelers has not been renewed ahead of the 2025 season. At the moment, it seems that Alexander has been brought in to replace him, but the difference between titles (Brown as secondary coach, Alexander as defensive backs coach) stands out.

The Steelers’ secondary coaching shakeup was not the team’s only coaching news today. Sports Illustrated’s Noah Strackbein reported that the Steelers have interviewed Cowboys linebackers coach Scott McCurley for the team’s linebackers coach job.
