The Steelers’ star nearly asked out amidst trade rumors
There were several names floated around trade rumors ahead of and during the 2025 NFL Draft. Few were more prominent and persistent than Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. Both Dianna Russini of The Athletic and Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports named Pickens as a name that was floating around. Schultz said that the Steelers were “taking and making” calls about Pickens, and named the Green Bay Packers as a team that were interested. The Dallas Cowboys were eventually named as being interested, as well.
These talks all came after the Steelers traded for DK Metcalf and immediately gave him a big extension. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler said that Pickens nearly requested a trade, but decided he wanted to be in Pittsburgh.
“I was told, in the end, Pickens in the end wants to be in Pittsburgh,” Fowler said. [He] sort of flirted with a trade request, but in the end, he loves Mike Tomlin and wants to be a part of things.”
So while his long-term future in Pittsburgh is filled with questions, it does appear that Pickens will be with the Steelers for at least the start of the 2025 season.
