The rookie wasted no time getting to work

The Pittsburgh Steelers selected Will Howard at the tail end of the NFL Draft, scooping up the National Champion quarterback in the sixth round. The Pennsylvania native

According to Devin Jackson of The Philadelphia Inquirer, Howard reached out to Steelers quarterbacks coach Tom Arth to get some plays, which made Arth and the rest of the Steelers’ offensive staff happy with the kind of player they drafted, according to Howard’s mother, Maureen.

“[Arth] wrote [Will] back and said, “Hey, we were going to give you the weekend off, but this is why we drafted you, because it’s the kind of worker you are,” Maureen said via Jackson.

Jackson added that Arth and Howard have a history, as Arth recruited Howard out of high school while he was the head coach at Akron.

While the Ohio State product is likely going to be the No. 3 quarterback behind Mason Rudolph and the likely soon-to-be-signed Aaron Rodgers, the work ethic understandably has coaches excited. When the time comes, Howard will likely replace Rudolph as the backup in 2027. And if the Steelers do take a quarterback in the first round in 2026, which feels like more of a certainty than anything, they’ll also have Howard on the roster if things go south with whomever they take next year.
