Bill Belichick believes the Steelers have the best quarterback situation in the NFL

Bill Belichick, widely regarded as one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, recently expressed his faith in the Steelers’ quarterback situation this season. While discussing the state of the league on the Pat McAfee Show, Belichick stated that the Steelers are “playing well as a team”.

This stands in stark contrast to what other pundits are saying, with questions being raised over how long Justin Fields will remain as starting quarterback, if he the job is still his come this Sunday against the New York Jets. Fields assumed the role this season as a result of Russell Wilson’s calf injury during training camp, which has so far left the latter on the bench. With Wilson now healthy and ready to jump into the starting role, this has many football commentators uncertain about what the season holds for the team.

Despite the widespread concern, the Steelers started the year 4-2, having defeated the Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders. This string of victories has secured the team a tie at the top of the AFC North. The victories have also made the Steelers popular amongst sports bettors.

Given the present divided opinion on the Steelers, bettors will be looking for maximum betting flexibility as the NFL progresses. Bitcoin betting, a form of anonymous sports betting using cryptocurrency, provides a wide range of NFL betting options. Specifically, it allows sports fans to bet on futures, prop bets, point spreads, and money lines.

Belichick’s recent advocacy of the Steelers’ quarterbacks adds further confusion to sports bettors, given the reputation of the former coach. For some, Belichick is a highly intelligent NFL pundit, being capable of recognizing player potential quicker than any other coach in the game. This skill helped him become the record holder of most Super Bowl wins as head coach, having led the New England Patriots to victory a total of six times.

On the other hand, Belichick’s reputation was somewhat tarnished in 2007 when he was accused of videotaping other coaches’ defensive hand signals in an event that became known as “Spygate”. After being fined $500,000 for this violation of the NFL coaching rulebook, some fans of the sport started to doubt the validity of his opinion.

Still, his opinion remains respected by many and his recent statement on the Pat McAfee Show captures the Steelers’ current quarterback situation well. Fields has proven himself worthy of managing the Steelers to victory in the starting quarterback position.

His current stats reflect a very capable player. Through six games, Fields has thrown for 1,106 passing yards, completing 66.3% of his passes with 5 touchdowns for a QB rating of 93.9. His added threat as a runner has added 231 yards and 5 touchdowns on the ground. Given these statistics, head coach Mike Tomlin has a major decision on his hands as to keep Fields as the starter against the New York Jets or beyond.

With Wilson recovered from his injury, Tomlin has two highly skilled starting quarterbacks to choose from, which is exactly the “best quarterback situation” that Belichick was referring to. Should the Steelers’ success continue, we could potentially see both quarterbacks playing the position for the entirety of the season ahead, with Wilson as the starter and Fields subbing in for specific situations.

Currently 35 years old, Wilson is 10 years Fields’ senior, however, he has tons more experience. He is best known for his time playing for the Seattle Seahawks, which ran between 2012 and 2021. In 2014, Wilson helped the Seahawks win their first-ever Super Bowl. Not only that, but he helped the team reach the Super Bowl again in 2015, despite as losing effort to Belichick’s New England Patriots.

Belichick knows first-hand what Wilson is capable of, which further bolsters his current opinion on the Steelers. All eyes will be on Sunday Night Football this weekend to see who gets the nod against Aaron Rodgers and the Jets, and whether Tomlin will have made the right call.
