Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Samuels is getting back to football, doing so up north in Canada. According to 3DownNation, the Ottawa Redblacks have signed Samuels.
Samuels was on the Steelers roster from 2018-20 as a rotational running back. His best year came as a rookie in 2018, where he had 256 yards on the ground. He scored his first touchdown in 2019, but became a smaller part of the offense in 2020, where he only had nine carries.
The Steelers drafted Samuels in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. During his tenure with Pittsburgh, he largely served as the team’s third-down back, backing up James Conner, Benny Snell Jr., and Anthony McFarland. He last appeared in a game in 2021 as a member of the Houston Texans. In four NFL seasons, Samuels had 468 yards and one touchdown with Pittsburgh and Houston. During his four-year career at North Carolina State, he accumulated 1,855 yards and 19 scores.
