Steel City Underground presents “Plays of the Year” featuring the top runs, catches, hits, and everything else in between from the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 2024 season.
Entering the Wild Card round of the NFL playoffs, the odds were heavily stacked against the Pittsburgh Steelers securing a victory over the surging Baltimore Ravens. After punting on every offensive drive in the first half, the situation appeared dismal for the Steelers. However, after the halftime break, Pittsburgh showed signs of life, earning their first points on their opening drive of the third quarter.
In what became the longest offensive drive in yards for either team, Pittsburgh received a Baltimore punt and meticulously marched 98 yards down the field. The pivotal drive began at Pittsburgh’s own 2-yard line. Quarterback Russell Wilson connected with Darnell Washington on a short pass, moving the Steelers’ offense out of the immediate danger zone near their end zone. He then hit Calvin Austin in stride for a 25-yard catch-and-run, advancing the ball to the 28-yard line.
After taking a sack on 2nd & 5 at the 33-yard line, Wilson launched another deep ball, this time to Mike Williams for a significant 37-yard gain. Despite two subsequent incomplete passes from Wilson, which seemed to stall the drive, the Steelers persevered. On 3rd & 10 at the Ravens’ 30-yard line, Wilson took the snap from shotgun formation and delivered one of his characteristic “moon balls” to Van Jefferson, who had gained a step on his defender. Jefferson secured the 30-yard pass for the touchdown.

After a successful PAT by Chris Boswell, the Steelers were back in the game.
Jefferson, who had been targeted 40 times during the 2024 NFL regular season, maximized his two receptions (on two targets) in the playoff game, finishing with 37 total yards and the touchdown.
Ultimately, the Ravens won the game 28-14, ending the Steelers’ postseason run.
