Gerald Alexander is back with the Steelers.

The Steelers have reportedly added their first new coach of the season.

Per NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, the Steelers are hiring Raiders safeties coach Gerald Alexander to be the team’s new defensive backs coach.

Alexander will be a familiar name to Steelers fans — he previously spent the 2022-23 seasons in Pittsburgh as the assistant defensive backs coach. Now, he’s back in the black and gold.

The question then becomes what will change with the Steelers’ current secondary coach, Grady Brown. Brown received a defensive coordinator interview this year and seems to be a name on the rise, meaning the Steelers could be giving him a promotion and Alexander is his replacement. However, nothing has been reported yet regarding Brown’s status.

Under Alexander, Raiders safety Tre’von Moehrig had a breakout season ahead of his upcoming free agency.

If Grady Brown stays with the Steelers, Alexander hiring marks an expansion to the Steelers’ coaching staff. However, the team is still in need of a new linebackers coach after Aaron Curry is now in the same position with the New York Jets.
