The Steelers plan to keep Wilson around

The Pittsburgh Steelers are 8-3, and their rebuilt quarterback room has gotten them much more production, and brought a lot more success, than many outside of Pittsburgh expected. Justin Fields went 4-2 as the starter in the team’s first six games, and Russell Wilson has gone 4-1 since taking over after being injured with a calf injury. With Pittsburgh sitting atop the AFC North, and the offense having much more success and consistency then it saw under Matt Canada and Kenny Pickett, the Steelers have a choice to make when it comes to their signal-callers, as both will be free agents in March. However, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Pittsburgh plans to re-sign Wilson.

“The free-agent quarterback market is lacking, with Sam Darnold and Russell Wilson the top names,” Russini writes. “Though Wilson is expected to stay with the Steelers and the Vikings could decide to keep Darnold if he’s willing to be a backup.”

Wilson has played well thus far, throwing seven touchdowns to just two interceptions and has a passer rating of 98.6.
