The Steelers’ captain gives his thoughts on the Aaron Rodgers saga

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback waiting game continues after a week. Justin Fields opted to sign with the New York Jets, and it feels quite apparent that the team does not want Russell Wilson back, or else he would have been signed already.

The Steelers continue to wait on an answer from Aaron Rodgers, much to the chagrin of Cam Heyward. In the latest episode of Not Just Football, a seemingly annoyed Heyward gave his thoughts on the Rodgers saga.

“I ain’t doing that darkness retreat,” Heyward said. “I don’t need any of that crap. Either you want to be a Pittsburgh Steeler or you don’t. That’s simple, that’s the pitch. If you want me to recruit, that’s the recruiting pitch. Pittsburgh Steelers if you want to be part of it, so be it. If you don’t, no skin off my back.”

Heyward seems to share a lot of the sentiment that Steelers fans have. It shouldn’t take this long to decide whether or not you want to play in Pittsburgh, or play at all. Heyward adds that the team is more than comfortable with Mason Rudolph being the guy in 2025.

“When he stepped in for us, he was ready,” Heyward said. “If we don’t sign a quarterback and we go in there with Mason, we feel good about it. Excited to have him back. He’s a [good] guy for the locker room. A lot of guys vibe with him.”

Rudolph led the Steelers to a 3-0 record in the team’s final three games in 2023 to help them steal the No. 7 seed and get into the postseason. Should he be the full-time starter for the 2025 season, a lot of fans would be okay with that, considering all other potential options.
