The block numbers are back! With a twist…
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be in their Sunday best on primetime this week against the New York Jets. Per a team announcement, Pittsburgh players will be donning their throwback, “block number” uniforms on Week 7’s Sunday Night Football to celebrate the 50-year anniversary of the Steelers’ Super Bowl IX win.

The Steelers’ throwback uniforms have been fan-favorites for years, but there’s a small change this time around, with the team switching from black facemasks to era-accurate gray ones.
The team will also wear special “50th anniversary” jersey patches to commemorate the team’s 1974 season Super Bowl IX victory. That game, a 16-6 win over the Minnesota Vikings, was the first Super Bowl victory of the Steelers’ 1970s dynasty.
Pittsburgh, of course, would go on to win three more in the decade, and another two after that.
This year, the Steelers hope to improve to a 5-2 record as they take on the New York Jets on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 8:20 p.m. ET.
