Pittsburgh tries out some defensive talent.

Two defenders worked out for the Steelers on Friday, per a report by NFL insider Aaron Wilson. Pittsburgh hosted defensive tackle Nathan Pickering and cornerback Mikey Victor.

Pickering played college football at Mississippi State before going undrafted in 2024. He signed with the Seattle Seahawks but was waived due to injury ahead of the regular season. His final year in college, the 6’4, 314-pound defensive lineman recorded 27 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and two sacks.

You can read NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein’s scouting report of Pickering below:

Pickering carries an underdeveloped frame and below-average musculation, but he utilizes his length and determination to get to the football. His lack of contact balance sees him end up on the ground too often, but he somehow finds himself in on plays despite lacking key elements associated with success. He’s not a powerful gap-clogger and is missing first-step quickness for disruption as a run defender or pass rusher, so making a squad will be an uphill battle.

Victor played college football and UNLV and Alabama State. In his final year as a Hornet in 2023, he recorded 36 total tackles, two interceptions, and 15 passes defensed. A big corner at 6’3, 209 pounds, Victor gained some draft hype in 2024 and was invited to participate in the Alabama pro day. Victor spent some time with the New England Patriots over the summer, but he was released ahead of the season.

Both Victor and Pickering are names to keep an eye on when the Steelers start signing players to reserve/future contracts.
