Darvin Ham's job is reportedly in serious jeopardy, here's where things went wrong for the Lakers coach

With 57.1 seconds remaining in Game 2 of the Los Angeles Lakers‘ first-round loss to the Denver Nuggets, LeBron James was called for a critical foul on a Jamal Murray miss that sent the young star guard to the free-throw line with a chance to tie the game. The contact certainly appeared marginal on first viewing, and though the Last Two Minute report would later confirm that it was indeed a foul, there would have been hardly any downside to challenging the call. The Lakers had two timeouts left, and even if they had lost the challenge, the time it would have taken for the officials to review the play would have given an exhausted, older Lakers team playing at altitude some badly-needed rest.

MIAMI — The Boston Celtics took one more step toward eliminating the rival Miami Heat with a convincing 102-88 Game 4 victory Monday to take a commanding 3-1 series lead.

But the win might have come with a cost, as Kristaps Porzingis, the team’s starting center, hobbled off the court with a calf injury just before halftime and didn’t return. Porzingis will undergo imaging Tuesday, but early indications are that he didn’t sustain an Achilles tendon injury, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Following the game, Porzingis slowly walked out of the visiting locker room area wearing a gray walking boot on his right foot.

Porzingis appeared to tweak something after catching a pass from Jaylen Brown late in the second period. Upon getting the ball, Porzingis started driving toward his left, then grimaced before

Anthony Averett will try out for the Steelers.

Generally, NFL rookie minicamps are for, well… rookies. But this year, the Steelers will have a veteran joining them as cornerback Anthony Averett tries out for the team.

An Alabama product, Averett entered the NFL as a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. The 5’11, 184-pound cornerback ran a 4.36-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.

Averett’s best NFL season came in 2021 with Baltimore, when he played in 14 games, recording 54 total tackles and three interceptions. However, that season ended in injury, as did Averett’s 2022 with the Raiders. He started off the 2023 season with the 49ers before landing on injured reserve, finishing his season on the Lions’ practice squad after being released. Per Tom Pelissero, Averett is now fully recovered.

Averett is now 29 years old with 27 career starts under his belt. A good athlete who is expected to be healthy entering the Steelers’ minicamp, there’s a chance he could be a name to watch during Pittsburgh’s offseason.

LeBron James declines to address future with Lakers, reportedly wants to see how they handle offseason

LeBron James has now played six seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers. One more and he would match his first run with the Cleveland Cavaliers for his longest tenure with a single team. The choice to reach that milestone, thanks to a player-option in his contract, is entirely in his hands. At this moment, James is seemingly still on the fence about whether or not he would like to do so.

The Lakers were eliminated from the postseason by the Denver Nuggets on Monday, which naturally prompted questions about James’ future in Los Angeles. If he has made up his mind, he decided not to share a decision. When asked if there was any thought about whether or not this could be his last game as a Laker following Monday’s loss, James took

LeBron James returning to Lakers remains the most likely scenario

By | April 30, 2024

As for his father, the Lakers want him back — badly — and the potential of the 39-year-old LeBron returning remains the most likely scenario. Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, in particular, believes James’ return is of paramount importance to their plan. This franchise has always been buoyed by the stars, and James’ ability to still play at an elite level at his advanced age has only strengthened the desire to have him retire in a purple-and-gold jersey one day. And after six seasons together in which there has been no shortage of ups and downs, Buss and James, team sources say, have a relationship that is better than ever these days. The Lakers, team sources say, would be open to discussing any deal that involves James

ANOTHER DISAPPOINTING LOSS weighed on Los Angeles Lakers coach Darvin Ham as he maneuvered Saturday night I-110 traffic to catch a redeye flight back to his personal basketball bliss.

It was March 16, and Ham’s Lakers had just been handled at home by the Golden State Warriors for their third loss in their past five games. It was L.A.’s second straight defeat to a team it was battling with for playoff seeding — the Sacramento Kings had controlled the action three nights earlier.

Ham’s trip wasn’t just taking him 2,300 miles east, but 20 years back in time. The Detroit Pistons were celebrating the franchise’s 2004

DENVER — LeBron James said he is undecided on his NBA future following the Los Angeles Lakers108-106 loss in Game 5 on their first-round series against the Denver Nuggets on Monday night.

PHOENIX — Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch was helped off the court late in his team’s series-clinching 122-116 win over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday night with a ruptured patellar tendon in his right knee after one of his players collided with him on the sideline.

The collision occurred with 1:40 left in the fourth quarter of the Timberwolves’ closeout win to sweep the Suns in four games. Minnesota point guard Mike Conley was driving down the court and forced out of bounds by Suns guard Devin Booker, who was called for a foul.

Lakers reportedly 'very open' to idea of pairing LeBron James with Bronny

LeBron James could have his wish of playing alongside his oldest son, Bronny James, granted by the Los Angeles Lakers next season.

According to a report from The Athletic, the Lakers are “very open” to the idea of drafting Bronny, who declared for the 2024 NBA Draft in April despite not doing much to improve his draft stock in his one season at USC.

Bronny, 19, averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists, while shooting 36.6% from the field in 25 games with the Trojans.

The Lakers will only have the No. 55 pick in this summer’s draft (via the LA Clippers) unless the New Orleans Pelicans choose to defer their owed pick to 2025. In that case, the Lakers will also have the No. 17 pick, just outside of the lottery.

LeBron James has a player option worth $51.4 million he can decline this summer to become an unrestricted free agent, which puts more pressure on the Lakers to draft Bronny.

The 2024 NBA Draft will take place at Barclays Center on June 26 and June 27. NBA free agency starts July 1.
